Cannibalism is common among a few species of snakes but the cannibalistic behavior exhibtied by this hatchling Tropidolaemus subannulatus is uncommonly observed in Asian pitvipers. The incident occurred when Hemidactylus frenatus subadults were being fed to a six hatchlings kept together in a terrarium. The mistake was due to the laziness of my caretaker who did not separate them at feeding time. It happened when all of the hatchlings have already taken their share of food that one of them suddenly ...

Hi@all

I have a question about the right subspecies-naming. I know the Tropidolaemus-complex is in a revision. But at this time, what I have to write for the different localities?

Is it possible to describe using the names of local forms?

For example:

All animals from Sulawesi are T. wagleri subannulatus or T. subannulatus

All animals from Sumatra are T. wagleri

All animals from Kalimantan are T. wagleri immaculatus or T. immaculatus (just as an example!)

All animals from Palawan are ...

Hello,

I am new to this forum, and I am excited to see that so many people are having success with Tropidolaemus. I kept T. wagleri and T. subannulatus several years ago. I currently do not keep any, but I was thinking about working with this genus again. I had limited success with them, and only had my snakes survive for about 3 years. They did very well during those first few years, then feeding became more sporadic, then some regurgitated food and died. I suspect that the ambient ...

Hello Community,

first I´d like to introduce myself. My name is Christopher Trummer and I live near Graz.

I´m keen on venomous snakes, especially the Atherini-Genus and nearby all arboreal pitvipers are IMHO fantastic.

Here are two pics of a Tropidolaemus wagleri, shot with a Nikon D80, lens: AF-S DX 18-135 mm.

Next, a sub-adult female. I love this colouration, similar to those found on Sulawesi.
