The local petshop called me today and asked if I could use some older Sebra finches as food for my snakes. So I picked them up and fed them to my male Eastern Green Mamba Dendroaspis angusticeps Really amazing if you see them strike and grab a flying bird with rapid speed out of the air. A bird does not know what hits him and dies in a instance.

But the snake grabbed it rigth behind te wings of wich I could take some nice shots.

I have not best camera but I think they turned out oke.

cheers

I was hoping someone with experience in these species could tell me how one can easily tell the difference between D. jamesoni jamesoni and D. viridis. With D. jamesoni kaimosea the black tail is a clear difference but in the case of D. jamesoni jamesoni and D. viridis it at least for me is more difficult. I would appreciate some help with this.

Hope to breed him after acclimatation to reverse season (my female is !).

HI all,

How long after copulation does it usually take for ovaposition to occur in D. polylepis? Also, I was hoping someone could help me out with incubation info (temps, humidity, etc...). In addition, do females continue to eat up until they lay eggs, or do they slack off after fairly obvious signs of being gravid?

Thanks everybody in advance, I look forward to hearing from all the Mamba keepers out there!

Hi all,

Is there anybody on here who has bred D. polylepis? I currently have 2 males and 1 female – I’ve been spraying them 2-3 times per day and rotating the males, sometimes keeping 2 in with her at a time, over the last 3 weeks she has been hiding in the trap box, where I still continue to spray through the entrance. She seems to be moping around and not that active – yesterday I lifted her back-end up and it looks like there are bumps underneath, maybe this is just wishful thinking because ...

Looking at the enclosures from the front, they are 2.4 meters wide and 3.2 meters deep. The front half is made of wire mesh and the back half is under cover, so the snakes can escape the sun and rain when they want. The hide boxes are at the back, elevated about 2 meters off the ground.

I have good news: at the 23rd of June the first Dendroaspis jamesoni kaimosae was born! In total today there are 3 animals born, one was disabled and died today. The other two animals are doing well and it seems, that they feel like 2 meters! Highly aggressive! One egg is still in the incubator and it is not smelling. Maybe……

Some parameters of the breed: mating was at the 27th of November 2008. The female was feeding until the end of pregnancy. At the 8th of March 2009 she ...

our Black Mambas are somethings! for sure they are one of the most challenging snakes i have worked with within the last years. nevertheless they are the most amazing ones besides the Kings, Taipans and forest Cobras.

my male as he was only 8 moths old. today he is not even two years, and already two meters long, growing like crazy!
