Hey guys, I have a quick question. I am interested in buying a pair of fresh import A. nitschei however, I am a bit concerned about their health. I have heard that most nitschei imports do not fare well long term and die within months. Is this true? Is there any way to avoid their deaths?? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I am also concidering a pair of ceratophora. Should I just get the ceratophora instead of the nitschei?? Thank you in advance.

I've had this squam for a couple of months and she shed her skin last night.

As she looks real nice I thought I'd take some new images as I find it relaxing.

Anyway I hope to get another couple of these in Houten later in the year.

I'm still trying to capture her flicking out her tongue!

I have noticed that most of the other pics i have seen the males have the paired yellow dots on their back as well. This particular male has no yellow on him at all. Could this be locality or perhaps his age? He is about 35cm long currently. Hope you like the pictures.

Hi guys some advice about breeding this species would be very much appreciated. I have done a lot of reading on them but practical tips from your experience would help a lot.

I acquired a pair of A.chlorechis from a friend. Both the male and female seem to be doing very well, both eat and drink regularly. I am keeping them in 30litre plastic tubs with holes drilled for ventilation. I’m using sphagnum moss as a substrate with plenty place to climb and perch. I’m using plastic plants in ...

Does anyone know if someone has every crossed a squam with a chlorechis or vise-versa? Or could it even be done? The reason I ask is because on page 21 of R.D. Bartlett & Kenneth Wray's book entitled "Vipers" there is a picture of a chlorechis that has an intense amount of blotched yellow throughout its body. It is labeled as an abnormally colored chlorechis but I still couldn't help but wonder if perhaps it was a hybrid.

So, as I mentioned in Mr. Keenan's thread earlier, my young adult A. nitschei pair copulated for the first time on July 12th '07. They did copulate on several other occasions later that year as well.

Finally something happened this month, on 21st; the female was finally giving birth!

The result was some unfertilized goo (soft, without solid form), 4 stillborn babies and 1 weak, miniscule baby. I was pretty sure this smaller-than-a-pencil baby wouldn't make it, but roughly 12 hours after ...

The most experienced squam breeder I know says Atheris, or at least his, do not have pre-birth sheds. At the same time, there are a few other breeders that say they do. Has anyone here had any experiences with this? I'm curious what others have to say about this topic. Thanks.

Finaly it happend, one of my females dropped 7 youngsters. I already gave up to hope for a birth.

The girl was eating all the times, like a costructionworker.

Feb. 11th she refused food, last meal was exactly one mouth before, and Feb. 12th i found the baby's in the cage.

BTW she was not presheding, but 6 days after giving birth.

Cheers

I love how the color seems to keep changing on this girl. One minute she looks blackish, the next she looks muddy brown, and the next she has red and orange highlights all over her. Check out the orange speckles under her eye. I didn't alter the color on that, so ...

Late last year my A.nitschei female dropped a single baby. The baby was very healthy and ate a week or so after it was born. I ended up selling him to a friend of mine while he was still completely black.

I went to visit the little fellow the other day after he shed and to my surprise the bottom half of his body closely resembles that of A. rungweensis.

Will this colour change with age or is just a good looker?

Here's the pictures , also thanks to Derek Morgan for his experience and advice on the feeding.

Some of the babies I need to lift into the air to feed after striking otherwise they are dropping the item and running.
