I'm seeing from the few breedings of this species a recomendation of 27.5 to 29 degrees Celsius for incubation on these guys?
I bred one of our pairs last year with 10 beautiful eggs and had a very low hatch rate. I'm sure that we incubated way to high...though 27.5 seems awfully low... is this what everyone agrees on? My same female just finished her prelay shed and should be laying eggs in about 10 days or so and I would really like to get the incubation right this time.
Any thoughts? Mario?

Also, out of curiosity anyone double clutch this species? I tried last year to no avail...?

Cheers!
Terry

Hello Terry,

In the last year´s I´ve had some clutches of my kaouthia´s and incubate them at round about 28 (+/- 1) degree.
The most hatched and the sexes have been almost 50/50.

My samarensis I incubate at 28 (+/- 1) degree, too. The temperatur sink to 27,5 then the heating starts and the temperatur goes to max 29. Then it drop to 27,5 again and so on.

In the last year I got 5 (all females) little ones. I´ve had 8 eggs. 2 get bad during the incubation and on died directly after hatching.
The little one´s hatched after ~70 days. I think in the last year the temperatur has been a little lower...27 - max 28,5 degree.

i second that..

here i always incubate between 28 and 29°C... good hatch rates, RH at 90% slightly reduced after 40 days to 82%..

the snakes should hatch after ~ 62 day´s..

i also keep the substrate (humus soil) more wet as other eggs, had good experiences with.. Naja samarensis live here close related to water, most of the snakes i caught was almost semi-aquatil and all been feed mainly on frogs...

@ Carsten: i cross my fingers

@Terry: did you got animals from me? trough Rustan perhaps?

cheers
Mario

Thanks you guys, I appreciate it. Should have a clutch on the ground in about 10 days or so... I'll give it a go.

Mario, yes we got ours from Ruston at Dallas. You and I spoke last year about these guys.

Do you have any bite histories on this species?

Cheers!

Hey Terry

If it is not too much trouble can you post info about the clutch such as temps, days to hatch, and sex ratio.
