This little girl's name Zamokuhle Matsebula. She is only seventeen months old.
She was bitten by a spitting cobra on 29th March but only came to see me today.
She walked out of the door as the snake was coming in to the house. She played with the snake and it bit her on the ankle. It did not spit at her at all. The mother thinks she may have put her foot out to kick it.
The rural clinic (same as Mduduzi went to), where she stayed for five days, gave her some orange-coloured suspension to drink and Panado for the pain.
I do not know if they will be able to save her foot as the infection seems very deep and the bone is clearly visible. She is in an incredible amount of pain and screamed most of the time I was with her.
The doctor I took her to called the police and wanted her arrested for negligence? the original posting on SAReptiles can be found

Donations for Swazi snakebite victoms

Following Swazi's report of Zamokuhle Matsebula's bite we have decided to try raise some funds to cover her treatment as well as any future cases. Swazi says that she has received some assistance for the training of hospital staff over there to treat bite victoms and hopefully this is successful.
What Swazi does need in the short term is help to cover costs of Zamokuhle's treatment. I'm told she is being prepared for surgery but we are still not certain weather they have decided to amputate or not. Let's hold thumbs that the right decision has been made. In the interim we can at least raise a sum of money and make it available to Swazi for if Zamokuhle will need further treatment, as well as for the next person that get's bitten. As we've seen this is inevitable.
Once adequate training has taken place and hopefully treatment abilities improve, there should be less of a need to treat bites that are a few days old and we can focus more on donating polyvalent AV.
We have allocated a trust account for the fundraising and all moneys donated will be announced, while Swazi will be furnishing us with a clear reconciliation for all the donors to see and will update with pics etc on a regular basis.
If you would like to donate, please use your alias as a reference so that it reflects who paid what on the statement. We will then announce in this topic who donated money unless if you would like to remain anonymous, just put 'anon' as the reference. In this case we will just add that anonymous donated x.
