PostSubject: Dwarf Bitis in captivity   Thu 23 Apr - 19:29

I would like to hear from everyone which of the more rare dwarf Bitis species they are aware of in captive
collections. I would like to know how many of each is there.

Currently I know of ...

B. armata - 3 people currently
B. albanica - 2 people in the past
B. inornata - 1 person in the past
B. rubida - 3 people in the past, 1 currently

We know worthingtoni, xeropaga, atropos etc are being kept. Anyone know of regular breeding?

Hi Rob.

B. armata - 2 people in the present (S.A.) ( 4 specimens +)
B. albanica - 1 in the past (USA) (where did those 2 specimens go to?) , 1 in the present (S.A). (3 specimens)
B. inornata - none that I am 100% of.
B. rubida - 1 guy in the present (S.A.)

Where's B. heraldica ? One day before I die Smile
The holy grail exists!

These wet collections bring tears to my eyes Rob, but I suppose they have purpose too. Aai.

Well, off course they have a purpose. Without these wet collections there would be no way to describe new species. And without knowing/describing species there is no base for conservation as you don't protect what you don't know.
None of us would have an idea that there is a species called Bitis heraldica for example.
