| I also thought it was a Naja Naja when I bought it. has the same coverage on the shield. So when I got back to my room I took up the cobra and began to take photos of it. then when I put it in the cage he began to spit on me. so I sent the pictures I had taken to a guy that should be really good at cobras o he said it was a Naja siamensis. so that is what I go on. but i can have wrong.
best regards Larsa |

| From all I know, spitting is also known from Naja atra and Naja kaouthia but not from Naja naja ... but I photographed Naja siamensis at Peter's zoo and this species really looks completely different.
Maybe Peter can help to clarify this? |

| I will send you the to WW's asiatic cobra page.
http://www.bangor.ac.uk/~bss166/Taxa/AsNaja.htm
You will find information about all species of asiatic cobra. Actually, it seem the difference between N. atra and N. siamensis is in scalation and maybe in some details in coloration-pattern. |

| I would have guessed N. naja from the photo, but if it is spitting , then it is definitely NOT N. naja. I have had, seen, and produced many N. siamensis, and they do vary greatly in color and pattern, even within the same clutch. WW's site is the best place to get info on Asiatic Cobras.
I have produced siamensis that were almost completely brownish to brown/black, some had a little white, some were more than 50% white. That one pictured is definitely one I would like to have. Very different. |
