| I have seen a photo at SA Reptiles where a Naja mossambica bit himself. Are there many cases within the Naja-Komplex? Or especially spitters?

Hi Fabian,
you raise a serious question here. we had a similar discussion about cases like this before somewhere. i have had around 20+ cases like this over the years. first, i was believing it might be coz of internal parasites like lungworms etc. i observed selfinflicted bites (where the animal envenomated himself and died) in different Naja and Trimeresurus species. i also recall Dick Visser from Holland asking the same question in another forum some years ago.
some animals left the impression of suicide so to speak.
