PostSubject: Lampropeltis behaviour   Wed 28 Apr - 2:03

My Lampropeltis zonata pulchra are extremly calm snakes. I won't try but I think nobody could make them angry enough to bite.
But when I feed them (living speckies) - they love alive food much more than warmed frozen mice - everything changes.

I feed them separated, the male is transferred into a small feeding terrarium. He does not seem to be disturbed by that. After the prey was swallowed I usually give him a couple of minutes until I take him back into the big terrarium. When I take him back, he gets extremley nervous and I don't have a clue why - as You know, I am not very experienced.

Is this standard behaviour for kingsnakes or is it some mistake by me?

My Boas don't show that ... I always must be aware of a bite, especially the female Epicrates c. cenchria is really a wild little critter.

Manuel,

i think it would be helpful if you would post at the board your advices regarding Guenter's question, as it could help others a well...

thats for it is a discussion board.... anyway...

Guenter, you could have the same behavior as well by other snakes, after feeding. i always wait one day before i reintroduce them (and others) after they been separated for feeding, as they do pretty much have the smell from their food items stuck on them, especially after you feeding life prey...

in other cases, snakes do want to hide as soon as possible after feeding, like in their natural habitats... it is nothing special for your male to react like that, pretty much normal i would say....

cheers
Mario

Mario, you're right.

I just told Günter some things of my life and that he should spray water on his Lampropeltis a few minutes after feeding to cool them down. Works well with my Morelia viridis.

Regards.
