I visited the Northern Cape recently and saw this fellow basking a little way off the road in a nature reserve.
It was 26 degrees and around 15hoo. Sun was out, no wind.
I saw it from the vehicle as it half raised its hood, when we stopped it hooded fully. I jumped out with the camera and snapped these 3 shots. I switched the camera to "video" and "filmed" about 20 seconds of it charging at me and constantly spitting. Once it moved off I checked the "video" and found I had photographed the ground when I clicked "stop". I had it on the wrong function.
Oh well, the pics will have to do.
