PostSubject: "Blue" mamba !   Sat 5 Feb - 7:38

Hi ! I have a small problem which I hope I can get help with here at venomland Smile

I have a D. angusticeps and she is eating and doing well, but every time she sheds her skinn she becomes more and more blue. I have never seen this before... Perhaps it could be some kind of disease ?
If anyone might know what this is, please let me know.

Regards Therese Smile

Blue mamba- Definately an heat source. I had the same problem with green mambas-they had touched the lamp and the result looked exactly like the photo. Close the lamp with mesh- and it will be resolved.
They shed it off after a few sheds.

It may have something to do with cage temperatures. My eastern green mamba had a small case of that and I noticed the snake room was a little cool. Now that the temperatures are getting warmer and she is shedding, it has gone away. I also misted her every other day to help with the shed. That seemed to help her shed her skin and it got rid of that blue scale problem.

The blue scales on Eastern Green Mamba's are normally caused by some form of injury. It could be from touching a heat lamp or from scratching against a sharp branch or something of the sort in the enclosure. Check your enclosure for any branches with sharp edges or perhaps a very tight spot that the snake might be squeezing through while it is in the process of shedding.

Hope that this helps, the blue marks will go away after a few sheds.
