PostSubject: Wrong taxa on the reptile database?    Tue 8 Feb - 19:40

Hi folks,

may be that this is a bit a stupid question, but it has to be... Smile

i just was on this page: http://reptile-database.reptarium.cz/species.php?genus=Acanthophis&species=antarcticus and i recognised, the higher taxa.
Shouldn't there stand elapidae? I don't think, that Acanthophis are sea snake's. Laughing

Regards Ambros

Not really wrong, Ambros, just another opinion.

They put all sea snakes and australian elapids in the family Hydrophiidae - others see a family Elapidae with the two subfamilies Hydrophiinae and Elapinae.

The more common opinion has been posted here.

Treating the Hydrophiidae as a separate family is a minority opinion nowadays. Most recent papers treat them as a subfamily of the Elapidae, i.e., the Hydrophiinae.

Thank you very much Peter and Wolfgang, for your, (like always) very competent replays. It looks like i still have to read and learn a lot. cheers
The reason why i am asking is, that i want to make a similar page like the reptile database in german. Not so professional, but nicer, with more info about the single species and of course nice Pictures .
Lots and lots of work to do.

I know there are lots of pages out there like these, i just like to do things like this and if nobody needs it, then it's just for me. Laughing
I'm open for all hint's from you.
Thanks again and best regards Ambros
