Sorry Michael, but that is an unqualified statement.

I saw the video on facebook a couple of minutes ago and wanted to post the link here but I was to late. I wonder if those cobras all have their teeth or is it just a guy who doesn't care about the risk? What do You guys think?

First you see some dead ones in the background, some others look if they will die soon ( no tonus )
I do not wish the dead anyone, but I understand the comment. Of course the guy have to work for his paycheck, but if you upload such stuff, you have to live with angry comments.
Showing some sensitivity at job has nothing to do with cultural background, only with individual behaviour.

Fabian, my opinion is, that in those countries things like animal rights, women rights, environmental care, etc. are at a status as we had maybe 50 years ago. They simply have to learn and develop.

Thats true Günther

But ask yourself if such videos are necessary?
Does it contains :
- educational purposes
- proper handling
- natural behaviour or setup

Nothing at all!

So it is better to criticize such content and hope that they learn and develop faster...

This man operate/act without any respect towards these cobras. And I believe that so a person will act in the same way to other animals or maybe persons.

Personally I hate such people/animal abuser and wish them not the best so I can understand Michaelīs posting.

Sorry Guenter I disagree, South East Asian countries had organised civilisations long before we did in Europe
so they had plenty of time to learn and develop. I'm guessing this is in Thailand/Laos/Cambodia/Vietnam ?!historically largley Budhist countries which is not condusive with this type of treatment towards other living things. no I believe this is "man" at his worst making money from the tourists at the expense of the animals.
the stress and dehydration the snakes suffer being kept in those pits is not acceptable the female that laid all those eggs must have been cruising around for days trying to find somewhere suitabe to lay them before finally expelling them I wouldn't be surprised if she was one of the dead snakes in the background.

I'll get off my soapbox now-sorry
regards Tim Hallam.

They had great civilisations, but if You open Your eyes You may notice that they lost many of those benefits somehow. I am a man with a western mind, I think in the catagories of a western man - maybe this is just one and not the best way to think, but it is my way. And for me the criteria to judge a nations maturity is how they behave with minorities, animal rights, women rights, environment, health care, poverty, ... - things we call benefits of (western) civilisations.

In those categories those countries are "behind" IMHO. At least now. If they like it or not.

By the way:
China had civilisation thousands of years before the US and Europe had it. Egypt too and Iran/Iraq also. I won't state that those countries are at a more civilized level now than US and Europe. And look what they do with their environment ...

Yes I understand what you are getting at with the rights and welfare issues but I'm a herper and probably blinkered and bias as such and that video was pure exploitation not a lack of education.

Seems like wild caught cobras are randomly collected and thrown into the enclosure for the benefit of paying guests, I suppose. I doubt if any are fed. I don't know where this is, but my guess would be some tourist attraction. Seeing the dead cobras doesn't surprise me under these circumstances.

Another thought is this could just as easily be the holding area for a wholesale reptile dealer.

I think we all c'ant unterstand the situation, but (saying hard) they also need too have some money for living!

I am not a friend of the situation but when you try to change a country and their cultur you will have a problem, and yes there died some person at this work but in country's like this one its a part of the Environment and their cultur.

Sorry Bjoern, that is a way too simple justification attempt for me.
Sometimes You have to change a "culture", otherwise e.g. female genital mutilation (as a part of the culture), binding of girls feet, production of snake liquor, finning of sharks and numerous other practices would still be "politically correct".

Cruelty is not a kind of culture, anyway ! I just saw so many things about asian countries, so the illegal dogmeatproduction and trading on Philipines and China, and the coatproduction as well. I will not send any links, but every emapthic person would cry at these movies. A high number of asians got no conscience about animals.

I canīt hear that "political correctness" anymore. "Itīs their culture". One country aborts women, another aborts the whole association, another slays animals for some pervert siringritual, or punishes some bulls for show. Itīs all culture. We shall be glad we lost the WWII. "Oh, why do they slay Jews?"-"Oh, itīs a kind of German culture anyway".

These are just excuses to legitimate to look the other way. Itīs to easy.

Just my two Cents,

Manuel

Hi,

I personally donated some money to www.animalasia.org, an organisation who works against these grievances, as affliction of Asiatic Black Bears for some bilefluid, or the anguish of cats and dogs slaughtered as pervert as possible for meat. This is what I persannly think I can do for the animals in Asia. But we mustnīt look at Asia at all. Our animals in europe kept in mass stocks got no life either. Here we can interfere directly by not buying cheap meat, eggs, milk etc.

Best regards,

Manuel
