PostSubject: Hello...My Introduction...   Thu 14 Apr - 18:53

My name is Adam, and I am in South Dakota, USA. In a few months I will be moving to Germany, the Kaiserslautern area.

Been keeping reptile for years now, and really love them more than other animals. I currently have a 2yr old Central Bearded Dragon(Pogona Vitticeps), a mated pair of Golden Geckos(Gekko ulikovskii), and a Tiger Salamander(Ambystoma tigrinum). I have kept the usual...leopard gecko, crested gecko, ball python, corn snake, milksnake, garter snakes from the backyard Rolling Eyes

My goal is to eventually graduate to venomous keeping. It all depends on where I eventually move to after Germany, and what the local regulations/requirements are.

My next reptile will most likely be one of the following: Rainbow Boa, Green Tree Pythin, or Emerald Boa...not quite sure yet.

Anyways.........I love this site and all of you take amazing pictures(maybe I will learn how too)...Thanks! bounce

Adam

Hi Adam,

welcome on board, and welcome to Germany (in advance). Rheinland-Pfalz was no bad choice at all, as this is one of the regions in Germany which has so far no regulations about keeping venomous snakes.
About half of the german federal lands do have such regulations which make it more or less difficult to keep hots at home - and others are currently working on such.

If you arrive before September, don't miss the Hamm-expo, TERRARISTIKA. And just a few weeks later, in october, the annual SnakeDay, organized by the European Snake Society, takes place at Houten, The Netherlands.

See you

Peter

Well I will be living in the Kaiserslautern area due to being military. I don't think I will make it over until mid-october, so guess I will miss that show. One question...since I will be renting on the local economy, how open are german landlords to having reptiles in/on their property?

Hi Adam,

welcome to this site. Usually, it is no problem to get permission from the landlords to keep venomous snakes here in Germany, in my experience. I was renting for many years and I told the landlords quite frankly what I was interested in, and that I keep my snakes in locked cages in separate rooms. Never had any problem. However, make sure that you have the permission in written form in your contract - otherwise you may provide a handle for immediate kickout in case of later problems with your landlord.

Regards,

Klaus

Yes, getting it in writting is a definite thing. Probably won't get a venemous to start, most likely the GTP or Emerald Boa.

I forgot to post pics of my current animals...so here ay go:

The Geckos

The man of the house

Springer Spaniel-Maverick

Was going to put some crested geckos in here, but never did...
