PostSubject: Avicularia sp. "amazonica" eggsack   Wed 29 Jun - 2:47

Hello everyone, I think I can post this here - in march I mated my adult female Avicularia sp. "amazonica" and on the 15th of May she made a sack. After 30 days of nail-biting I took the sack and found this:

Today I looked at the babies and they have started darkening so they should shart molting soon. This is what they look like now:

This is a close-up of the mother:

Hello Alex, I have to disagree with you, it is in the Avicularia genus. The name it currently has in the hobby is Avicularia sp. "amazonica" and comes from Brasil. There is a long discussion about this "species" and there have been alot of cases where people are selling Peruvian Avicularia as Avicularia sp. "amazonica". Anyway, below is a picture of the female when she was younger and you can see there is no doubt as to what genus it belongs to even if species are hard to tell apart.

And here is a link to the discussion on this species at the Tarantula Store: http://www.the-t-store.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=9870

Thank you Alex. It's no problem, the Avicularia genus can be confusing even for the professionals.

Best regards!
