PostSubject: fascinating diversity (arthropod pictures)   Fri 9 Dec - 8:19

As I had the first closer contact with tarantulas, a few years ago, I was fascinated by them and their kind of movements and behavior...
After reading some literature and hours of talking to keepers, I became interested in labidognath spiders and other arthropods too.
Finally, I am overwhelmed by the huge diversity and the countless tricks and strategies in the struggle for survival, of this phylum.
IMO nobody should call them "ugly", "bizarre" perhaps, but not "ugly" Laughing
What do you guys think?

Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens

Holothele incei

Linothele megatheloides (Dipluridae), with huge spinnerets for making strong webs...

Latrodectus hasselti

And the last for today,
the sting of a Parabuthus transvalicus

I hope you enjoy my shots and share some of your pictures of these often underrated animals Wink

Cool pics mate! I like the first the most.

I've kept some a couple of years but I want more movement in my cages but some are just stunning for sure.
Also the reason I like Elapids the most of the venomous snakes.

Cheers, Ro.

Agree with that, and this is an "advantage" of labidognath spiders. They do not live as long as tarantulas, so they grow faster und one has more to observe in less time...

Concerning the pics I want to add, that they are made with a Micro Nikkor 40mm lens.

Another picture of Latrodectus hasselti, a female with egg sac

and the youngsters... (the thing on the right side is a part of an 1€cent-coin)

"giant japanese funnel-web spider"
Macrothele gigas (Hexathelidae), quite pissed off Twisted Evil

good night Razz
