PostSubject: Little redback   Fri 13 Jan - 0:32

Last fair in Hamm I bought myself a female redback spider (Latrodectus hasselti). Last weekend i had the time and opportunity to shoot a few pictures of her.
She's a really nice looking animal with a nice character.
The care for this little spider is quite easy; A escape-proof enclosure with some branches and 1 or 2 crickets per week.

Hope you guys will enjoy...

Very nice shots Udo! I like Spiers very much!

I´m suprised, because yesterday in German TV I´ve seen also a movie in that was diplaid ,,Animals Poisons´´ Snakes, Octopus...,and the show also the ,,Red Back´´. They was from Autralia and has entered over to Japan (Osaka), build up there a very big Population.
there was no sienific anmes used in this film, so I´m not sure was it this, or an oer Red Back Spider (Latrodectus spe.)

I have to found my fist widow in the wild!

Hey Udo! Nice animal and no comments of the quality of the pictures!! Damn, they’re nice!
I fed my L. mactans rarely, so I could keep it alive longer.

Cheers,
Niels

Very beautiful black widow. I love spiders too. Years ago I had Latrodectus Hesperus, I bought an adult female but has lived not more than half of the year. How long do they actually live?

@Albert; I can only tell you what I've been reading, since this is my first redback.
Different websites give different lifespans, but they should be able to reach 1,5 to about 4 years in captivity.
In the wild they often don't exceed 1 year.

Thanks for the reply Udo, maybe I'd bought a new one, only this time not an adult, and I might have it a longer time Smile
