PostSubject: Bitis arietans (Lake Nakuru) videos   Thu 19 Jan - 6:00

I have recently made a number of videos of my young puff adders (bred by Al Hyde) striking. The hope is to get a good idea of how far and fast they can go. Here are a few of the videos I have made.

And the same video slowed.

And another. The grid is marked with 5mm squares and my hand is not in the glove.

Slowed down.

And a feeding video.

Slowed.

Thanks,
David.

Fantastic work David. I especially like the second video where you showed strength, range and speed of attack Bitis arietans. The strength to which this snake attacks is impressive.

Great job mate Wink

thanks David,

It will be helpfull for beginers like me, surprising by the range of the attack for such a "fat" snake

We now have the parents of the juvenile snakes in those clips in Bangor. Having just cleaned them out, I can verify that the adults are just as sweet-tempered as the juveniles, and with the body weight involved, it's quite an impressive display.

We only acquired the parents very recently, so I don't have any pictures yet. They are amazing!

It is really amazing that fast strike and the range that is achieved. For me is it already quite fast on the slowed video Shocked That is truly impressive.
Now I can easier imagine why the most fatal bites from venomous snakes in South Africa comes from this snake.
Thanks for the informative videos.

I have a couple of "Lake - Nakuru" Bitis arietans CB 09 (End), and while they were young, were also very aggressive...
However, with one year of age are starting to calm down, and are now very peaceful, and generally never not respond
to harassment with blowing or biting attempt...

Thanks for that Predrag. It seems that the ones I have are from angry stock! Time will tell if they calm down. Here is a video from last night of a very hungry puff adder.

Thanks,
David.
